The Holiday Trilogy by Carlo Goldoni

Directed by Adam Paolozza

for the Ryerson School of Performance

Carlo Goldoni is Italy's answer to Molière. He absorbed the tradition of the commedia dell'arte and developed a new style of comedy that allowed for psychological observation. In The Holiday Trilogy he pokes fun at the bourgeoise Venetian class and their obsession with country vacations which he claimed had become “a passion, a mania, a disorder”.

The social group in The Holiday Trilogy are leisure-obsessed, voracious consumers, mired in debt and surviving on credit. They are living out the end of their ideological times with an uncertain future. They react like spoiled children when their privilege is taken away from them.

Sounds kind of familiar, doesn't it?
